Young Handlers Class

The Blaston Hound Show 2022 saw the launch of their first Young Handlers class.
With so many young people helping at kennels with hounds these classes provide an ideal opportunity for the young to demonstrate the skills they have learnt and to represent their own pack.
To be eligible handlers must be aged between 8 and 16 years old, inclusive, and be regulars helping with hounds, the dress code is tie and white showing coat.
Competitors will be asked to show a single hound from their own hunt (preferably a well behaved 2nd or 3rd season bitch!)
The competitor must demonstrate their ability to encourage the hound to extend across the ring and to stand for showing, they will be supported by an experienced senior steward who will act as their assistant. The Judges will ask the exhibitor about the hounds’ breeding, their work at kennels and how long they have helped.
Only the young competitor will be allowed to enter the ring with the hound and to receive no assistance from outside the ring.
Each Hunt will be able to enter up to 3 competitors, entries will be taken when completing the other hound show class entry forms.
This year will be judged by Patrick Martin (Hunt Staff Liaison officer) supported by a team of well known stewards from within the hunting community.
All competitors will receive a commemorative rosette. The Overall winner will receive a Hunting horn and The Hignett Young Handler Challange trophy.
